Clarington's Community Services Department is preparing a facilities development strategy. The strategy will provide a framework for the development of new indoor recreation facilities, as well as the expansion of existing facilities, to meet the growing and changing needs of our community. In order to build an all-inclusive strategy, we have undertaken a consultation process engaging residents and stakeholders. Throughout September and October we held a number of public information centres across Clarington and a stakeholder workshop. Interviews and workshops have also been held with members of Council and Municipal staff. During this process, we asked the community to help us identify some of the recreation needs and challenges we face today with an eye to our future needs in 2031.
We will be reviewing and evaluating our current recreation facilities and their ability to meet the needs of our community. We will also look at what types of facilities Clarington will need in the future. We will be looking at all aspects of indoor recreation including ice rinks, swimming pools, fitness and wellness facilities, gymnasia and more. To that end, we have heard a number of key themes from the consultations.
It is expected that the Strategy report will be presented to residents, stakeholders and Council early in 2017.
