Introducing Your Members of Council . . . Mayor ADRIAN FOSTER Adrian Foster and his wife Deborah live in Courtice with their two sons Lee and Josh. Deborah
is an ordained Minister with The United Church of Canada, After graduating from the U of T,
Adrian worked as a counsellor helping developmentally handicapped children and their families
in a behaviour management setting. Later he started a career as an investment advisor and
had built a successful practice in that industry over 26 years. Since making their home in Clarington, the Fosters have been active in the community, directly supporting numerous groups and causes. A short list of some of the organizations that Adrian has volunteered with include the ITER Community Council, the Clarington Business Group, he is a Past President of the Clarington Board of Trade, was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Courtice and is involved with the Lion’s Club of Courtice. Adrian has been formally recognized twice for his service to the community. He was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee medal in 2002 and was presented with a Paul Harris Fellowship by the Rotary Club of Courtice in 2008. Adrian has represented the Municipality on a variety of boards and committees including CLOCA, Veridian, the Library Board as well as many of Clarington’s standing committees.
(mayor@clarington.net) Regional Councillor MARY NOVAK (Wards 1 & 2) ![]() Regional Councillor Mary Novak is not new to municipal politics having spent 13 years on Clarington Council as a Local and then Regional Councillor. She is a life-long resident of Clarington (Courtice). Mary is committed to keeping Clarington taxes low without sacrificing core services. She has stated that Clarington needs to create a positive business environment in order to support continued growth of employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in Clarington. At Regional Council Mary is a member of the Planning Committee, Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA), the Durham Trail Coordinating Committee, the Durham Transit Committee as well as Durham Region Local Housing Corporation. At the local level, Mary is the Chair of the Planning Services Department, a member of the Solina Hall Board, Darlington Site Planning Committee, the Library Board, and Veridian Board of Directors. Previously Mary was on the Board of the Clarington Older Adults Association, the 407 Advisory Committee, Build Courtice, and the Heritage Committee, as well as numerous other committees throughout out the community. Mary remains deeply committed to her community and constituents. Clarington has been “home” for the Woo family for the last 53 years. His parents came here as first generation immigrants and operated a restaurant for almost 30 years. The Woo family was welcomed with dignity and respect into the village and the family melded into the fabric of the community. This sense of community has left an indelible impact on his life and has defined his long history of being involved in the area and the genuine concern for the Community and its residents. Willie is employed locally by Goodyear Bowmanville Plant, a 200 + employer, and understands the importance of strong Economic Development and the benefits it has for our community to “Work where you live and play.” Willie is the Chair of Emergency and Fire Services as well as being the Council Liaison on the Tyrone Community Centre, Samuel Wilmot Nature Area Management Advisory Committee, Bethesda House Board, St. Mary’s Cement Advisory Committee, Visual Arts Centre Board, and Clarington Youth Advisory Committee. Willie enjoys his time with his wife, Donna, and their 4 children and 2 granddaughters. Councillor RON HOOPER (Ward 2) ![]() Ron is starting his second term as Local Councillor for Ward 2 (Darlington/Bowmanville). He is a lifelong resident of Bowmanville and one of the first graduates of Durham College's Marketing program. He is President of Hooper's Jewellers (a family operated business since 1945) and the former Chair of the Historic Downtown Bowmanville and served on the Board of Management for almost 20 years. Ron is also a Founding Member and Past President of the Clarington Board of Trade. In the jewellery business, Ron is the Past President of the Canadian Jewellery Buying Group (which involves more than 100 retail jewellery stores across Canada) and a Director on the Jewellers Vigilance Committee of Canada which is an organization that regulates the ethics of the jewellery trade in Canada. Ron and his wife of 36 years, Joan, live in the Bowmanville area and have 2 daughters and three grandsons. He has and continues to be involved with many local sports organizations - hockey and baseball and is actively involved in the local music industry. Send an Email to Local Councillor Hooper (rhooper@clarington.net) Councillor CORINNA TRAILL (Ward 3) Local Councillor for Ward 3, Corinna Traill, is a lifelong Bowmanville resident who has a close connection to the community in which she grew up. Having attended Bowmanville public schools and coming from a family of educators, Corinna understands the value maintaining a strong local school system and she is also a keen supporter of local arts and culture. As an advocate for social justice issues, Corinna is a member of Equal Voice, the Canadian Industrial Relations Association, the Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers and the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund. She is currently working at a Legal Aid clinic where she specializes in workers’ compensation, employment and human rights law and she will be joining a union-side labour law firm in Toronto to complete her articles. As the daughter of two retired parents who have been residents of Bowmanville for over 40 years and as the granddaughter of two veterans, Corinna has a deep respect for the contributions made by Clarington’s older adults and by the armed forces. Corinna is fluent in three languages, is an active contributor to her family’s twenty year small business and she holds a Bachelor of Arts with High Distinction from the University of Toronto and a Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School. Corinna is the Council representative for the Samuel Wilmot Nature Area Management Advisory Committee, and she is a director on the Bethesda House, Tyrone Community Centre and the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority boards. Corinna is also the chair of the Engineering Services Department at the Municipality of Clarington.
