Clarington Junior Fire Fighter Program The 16th annual Clarington Junior Fire Fighter program will be hosted by Clarington Emergency and Fire Services this summer. This camp is open to children aged 10 and 11 years who are Clarington residents. It provides the children with an opportunity to spend a week at the fire station, learning about fire fighting and fire safety. The camp runs for five weeks, starting Monday July 12, 2010.

Please note that will we NOT be using paper forms this year and we will NOT be distributing the forms through the schools Applications are accepted on a first come, first served basis. This camp is provided free-of-charge courtesy of Ontario Power Generation, Darlington Nuclear.

Fire Prevention Division - provides a variety of programs and services including:

  • Alarm for Life - an initiative whose goal is to visit each home in the Municipality to ensure they have working smoke alarms)

  • Fire Prevention Week - October 3- 9, 2010

  • Learn Not to Burn - children's fire safety program;

  • Older and Wiser (for adults);

  • Racing Against Drugs (for grade 5 students in partnership with Durham
    Regional Police Services, the Municipality of Clarington, the R.C.M.P. and the OPP);

  • Risk Watch - an injury prevention program for children;

  • TAPP-C - arson prevention program for children;

  • Barbecue Safety Tips



    Fire Suppression Division - This is a composite service which currently operates 5 stations. Two stations (Headquarters - Bowmanville, Courtice) operate 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. The remaining stations (in Enniskillen, Newcastle and Orono) operate with volunteer firefighters on a call-in basis. This Division responds to more than 2,600 incidents per year in a response area of 230 square miles. Firefighters of this Division participate in

    Training Division - All firefighters participate in an ongoing program of training to ensure that their skills and knowledge are kept at a proficient level. Regular sessions are held for volunteer firefighters to ensure their skills are kept up to accepted standards. All firefighters participate in an annual live fire training which uses the Flashover Recognition Unit (jointly purchased with the Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax and Pickering Fire Departments). This provides firefighters with a first hand observation of fire evolution with a focus on the flashover event which occurs when a build up of heat reaches ignition temperature.
