REGULATORY MAXIMUM SPEED LIMITS ON CLARINGTON ROADWAYS
Report EGD-047-08 By-law # 2008-194
Please be advised that due to changes in the Highway Traffic Act many municipalities were required to review their municipal road network and pass by-laws to establish regulatory speed limits. Report EGD-047-08 dated November 3, 2008 was reviewed by Council and By-law #2008-194 was approved.
The report only pertains to roadways under the jurisdiction of the Municipality of Clarington and do not affect roadways under the jurisdiction of the Regional Municipality of Durham which are posted 50, 60,70 or 80 km/hr.
Although speed limits will always be under review, the initial report does not support any 80 km/hr zones on the lower tier Clarington municipal roadway system. Approved speed limits are 50, 60 or 70 as of the report date; however, future road improvements may permit some roads to be increased to 80 km/hr.
Installation of the new regulatory speed signs started in March 2009 and is expected to be completed during 2009 or early 2010.
The posted Maximum Speed Limit Map shows the approved speed limits in various colours. This map will be revised from time to time as new roads are constructed or regulatory speed limits change. Motorists are encouraged to watch for new speed signs and drive safely.
