SENIOR: HOW DO I PROTECT MYSELF?

On a SMOG ALERT day, you should:
Grey box bullet Relax and do not overexert yourself
Grey box bullet Postpone your exercise and outdoor activities to a time when the smog alert is over
Grey box bullet Minimize your exposure to smog by avoiding high traffic areas
Grey box bullet Take frequent breaks and drink water and natural juices
Grey box bullet If your home is not air conditioned, visit Clarington’s air conditioned community centres
Grey box bullet If you are going outside, take frequent breaks in the shade or an air conditioned area
Grey box bullet Seek medical attention immediately if you experience symptoms such as chest tightness, wheezing or shortness of breath

CHILD: HOW DO I PROTECT THE HEALTH OF MY CHILD FROM SMOG?

On a SMOG ALERT day, you should:

Grey box bullet Decrease you child’s exposure to the outside either for exercise, play or work
Grey box bullet If your child has asthma, avoid being outside
Grey box bullet Postpone outdoor activities to a time when the air quality improves and the smog alert is lifted
Grey box bullet Minimize your child’s exposure to smog by avoiding high traffic areas
Grey box bullet If your home is not air conditioned, visit Clarington’s air conditioned community centres
Grey box bullet Seek medical attention immediately if you or your child experiences symptoms such as chest tightness, wheezing or shortness of breath

WHAT IF I HAVE A HEART OR LUNG CONDITION? HOW DO I PROTECT MYSELF?

On a SMOG ALERT day, you should:

Grey box bullet Relax and minimize your exposure to smog by avoiding high traffic areas
Grey box bullet Postpone outdoor activities to a time when the air quality improves and the smog alert is lifted
Grey box bullet If you are going outside, take frequent breaks in the shade and drink water or natural juices often
