DO I PROTECT MYSELF?
On a
SMOG ALERT day, you should:
Relax and do not overexert yourself
Postpone your exercise and outdoor activities
to a time when the smog alert is over
Minimize your exposure to smog by avoiding high
traffic areas
Take frequent breaks and drink water and natural
juices
If your home is not air conditioned, visit Clarington’s
air conditioned community centres
If you are going outside, take frequent breaks
in the shade or an air conditioned area
Seek medical attention immediately if you experience
symptoms such as chest tightness, wheezing or
shortness of breath
CHILD: HOW DO I PROTECT
THE HEALTH OF MY CHILD FROM SMOG?
On a SMOG ALERT day, you should:
Decrease you child’s exposure to the outside
either for exercise, play or work
If your child has asthma, avoid being outside
Postpone outdoor activities to a time when the
air quality improves and the smog alert is lifted
Minimize your child’s exposure to smog by
avoiding high traffic areas
If your home is not air conditioned, visit Clarington’s
air conditioned community centres
Seek medical attention immediately if you or your
child experiences symptoms such as chest tightness,
wheezing or shortness of breath
WHAT IF I HAVE A HEART
OR LUNG CONDITION? HOW DO I PROTECT MYSELF?
On a SMOG ALERT day, you should:
Relax and minimize your exposure to smog by avoiding
high traffic areas
Postpone outdoor activities to a time when the
air quality improves and the smog alert is lifted
If you are going outside, take frequent breaks
in the shade and drink water or natural juices
often
