Clarington Science and Technology Business Park
The Municipality is pursuing the establishment of a comprehensive planning framework for the development of a Science and Technology Business Park in Bowmanville. The Master Plan for the area will assist in the convergence of the biotechnology and life science sectors into a significant emplyment cluster for Clarington and the GTA.

- Secondary Plan Rationale
The Clarington Science and Technology Business Park presents an important opportunity to attract jobs and secure a strong tax base within Clarington and the Region. This Secondary Plan is meant to guide the convergence of the life sciences and biotech-nology sectors into an important employment cluster locally and regionally.
- The Vision
The Secondary Plan will ensure a consistent, high-quality image and “sense of place” befitting a Science and Technology Business Park through design and planning that empha-sizes sustainability and natural features.
- Land Use
A flexible land use framework accommodates a range of employment uses, but also encourages a concentration of “prestige” uses (e.g. corporate office, research and development) in key locations.
- Streetscape & Transportation
The Park’s road network will provide connectivity both within the Park and to the broader Region.
- Open Space & Servicing
The open space network will help create a strong ‘sense of place’ for employees and visitors to the Park. This network reinforces the natural features of the study area by integrating ecological function with servicing and building design.
- Green Development & Sustainability

Clarington Energy Business Park
The Energy Business Park is designed to attract services and industries related to the energy sector. The Municipality has adopted a Secondary Plan and Zoning By-law to provide a planning framework and urban design guidelines to guide future development of the Energy Business Park. The Energy Park is also a cornerstone of the Durham Region's efforts to make the Region the Energy Capital of Ontario.

In August 2004, the Municipality of Clarington, in partnership with the Region of Durham, the
Clarington Board of Trade and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), and with
the support of the Federal Government, initiated a study of the South Courtice Employment
Lands. The study was based on the premise that the lands were highly suitable for
development of an energy-themed business park. The primary objectives of the study were to
develop a conceptual vision for the business park, a planning framework for the site and an
