• Co-ordination of the design of municipal services
• Development servicing and design review
• Lot grading
• Storm Water management
• Environmental impact study review
• Pavement management of the road network
• Public road allowance openings/closures
• Street lighting & sidewalk warrants
• Road Occupancy/Access Permits (i.e. curb cuts & culverts, special events requiring the use of a municipal right-of-way)
• Transportation planning and traffic impact studies relating to secondary plans, draft plans and individual site plans

Traffic Division - conducts studies to determine the needs and warrants for traffic controls and maintains sign inventories to ensure the safety of the traveling public. Traffic on municipal roads, streets and sidewalks is governed by a series of municipal by-laws and the Ontario Highway Traffic Act. Traffic Division staff work closely with the:
o Clarington Road Watch Committee (Citizen Reporting Program – www.drps.ca)
o Traffic Watch Program – radar message board
o Clarington Traffic Management Advisory Committee (CTMAC) – Volunteer community members work closely with staff, Council, Durham Region Traffic and Durham Regional Police to provide a residents perspective on traffic issues

The Municipality strongly encourages prospective purchasers to visit or contact the Engineering Department and discuss grading/drainage issues with our staff prior to finalizing their choice of property. Our staff will point out certain lot features such as sloping, retaining walls, catch basins, drainage easements, noise barriers, drainage patterns, adjacent land uses, etc.
