1. How do I apply for a burning permit?

Determine if your property is eligible. Complete a burn permit application.

Bring the completed application to Clarington Emergency and Fire Services,

2430 Hwy #2, Bowmanville and pay the required fee.



2. Are you hiring for part-time ?

We normally start a recruitment drive in January only of each year.




3. How do I book a fire safety inspection?

Call the Fire Prevention Division at 905-623-5126, Ext #21 to book an inspection. At the time of scheduling your inspection, you will be advised if there is a fee for the inspection. -

4. Are Clarington residents allowed to use chimnea’s, fire

pits or outdoor fireplaces?

 

As a rule, these types of appliances are not permitted to be used in Clarington.

There are certain circumstances where use is permitted. Please see the exceptions.




5. Am I required to have working smoke alarms in my home?


Under the Ontario Fire Code, property owners are required to have working

smoke alarms on every storey of the building (including the basement)

and outside each sleeping area. See the smoke alarm fact sheet for additional information.




6. When do I replace the batteries in my smoke alarm?

The batteries should be replaced as per the manufacturer’s instructions.

Clarington Emergency and Fire Services recommends changing the batteries
every six months (Change Your Clock, Change Your Batteries). -




7. When do I replace my smoke alarm?

Smoke alarms should be replaced every ten years.

 



8. Can I install a battery operated smoke alarm in place
of an electrically wired smoke alarm?

No. This is considered reducing the level of detection and
is a violation of the Ontario Fire Code. -




9. What are the fines for not having working smoke alarms?

The fines start at $235. The fine can be up to $50,000 or imprisonmen
t for a term of not more than one year, or both. -




10. Am I required to have working carbon monoxide alarms in my home?

 

No. Clarington Emergency and Fire Services highly recommends installing
working carbon monoxide alarms in your home, outside all sleeping areas.

11. How do I book a tour of the fire station?

Call the Fire Prevention Division at 905-623-5126, Ext #23 to book
a tour or request fire department attendance at an event. -

 



12.  What are the ages for the Junior Firefighter program?

Children must be 10 years old when the program starts and must
not turn 12 years old before the program ends. -




13. When can I register my child for the Junior Firefighter Program?

Registration opens the first week of May.-




14. What is the cost for the Junior Firefighter Program?


The camp is provided free-of-charge to Clarington residents thanks
to our corporate sponsor, Ontario Power Generation – Darlington Nuclear.-




15. When is Family Safety Day – Clarington?

Family Safety Day is held the last Saturday in September
at the Bowmanville Fire Station, 2430 Hwy. #2, Bowmanville. -



16. How do I become a part-time firefighter?


We normally start a recruitment drive in January only of each year.




17. Where can I get my portable fire extinguisher serviced?

19.  How do I obtain contact information for a community organization?
