Sand is available for residents of Clarington
at the Hampton Operations Centre, 2320
Taunton Road and the Orono Operation
Centre, 3585 Taunton Road, to be used
on their residential sidewalks and driveways.
At no time shall this sand be available
for use by businesses.
SNOW PLOWING & STREET SNOW REMOVAL
Snow removal is done throughout the
Bowmanville, Newcastle and Orono Business
Improvement Areas (BIA's) when the depth
of snow at the curb reaches 24".
Snow removal is also performed in areas
with no boulevard between the sidewalk
and the road or when there is inadequate
storage space. This program commences
when all BIA's are cleared and when
all roads are in good condition.

SIDEWALK SNOW REMOVAL
Sidewalk clearing must be completed
within 12 hours from when the
snow fall stops. It is the owners and
tenants responsibility for removing
ice and snow accumulated from public
sidewalks that are adjacent to their
property. If the sidewalks are not cleared,
the By-law will be enforced, snow and
ice removed and costs will be charged
back to the property owner.
SENIOR CITIZENS AND THE PHYSICALLY DISABLED SIDEWALK AND DRIVEWAY
WINDROW SNOW CLEARING PROGRAM
The Municipality of Clarington is offering senior citizens 65 years of age and over and the physically disabled snow clearing service on municipal sidewalks and for driveway windrows adjacent to single family dwellings, which includes semi-detached, link housing and row housing in the urban areas of Bowmanville, Courtice, Orono, Newcastle Village and in the Hamlets of Bond Head, Newtonville, Tyrone, Leskard, Haydon, Kendal, Solina, Hampton, Burketon, Enniskillen and Maple Grove,.
Municipal Sidewalks: The snow clearing service for municipal sidewalks will start after a snow fall ends and only when there is more than 2 cm (approximately) 1 inch of snow on sidewalks.
Driveway Windrow: The driveway windrow clearing service will begin once all municipal streets have been plowed and when accumulation is more than 15 cm (approximately 6 inches).
Should conditions not meet the above criteria – 2 cm (1 inch) of snow on sidewalks and/or 15 cm (6 inches) of windrow, the resident is responsible to clear and provide material (sand or salt) as required.
To be eligible for this service, applicants are required to submit the fee of $67.80 ($60.00 + HST), with their application, for the November 2011 to April 2012 season.
Applicants must be:
- 65 years of age or older or be physically disabled;
- Occupy a single family dwelling which fronts onto a municipal street in the urban areas of the specified hamlets; and,
- Have no able bodied persons under the age of 65 years in residence
- Senior citizens must provide a photo copy of a birth certificate or Senior Citizens Card;
- Physically disabled applicants must provide a doctor's certificate each year; and,
- Permanently disabled must provide one doctor’s certificate stating your permanent disability which will be kept on file.

2011 participants will receive their 2012 application by mail.
Completed applications must be submitted to the Operations Department, Municipality of Clarington no later than Friday, OCTOBER 28, 2011.
