Fire safety is paramount as Clarington sees 42 per cent jump in fires

Clarington May 12, 2020/- Clarington has seen a 42 per cent increase in fires in 2020 compared to the previous year. The statistics across Ontario are much more sobering; the Province has reported a 65 per cent increase in fire fatalities in 2020 compared to the same period last year. Of the 41 fire-related deaths to date, 17 of those fatalities occurred in March.

Between January and April 2020, Clarington firefighters responded to 49 fires, an increase of 11 fires for the same period in 2019.

  • Second Street, from Prospect Street to Lambs Lane, beginning May 11 until approximately June 20, 2020
