Region of Durham issues update on recent stack test at the Durham York Energy Centre

Whitby, Ont. – The Regional Municipality of Durham would like to advise residents that boiler #1 at the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC) remains off-line in response to the recent stack test failure. Boiler #1 will stay off-line while the operator, Covanta, undertakes phase one of the investigation into the failure which includes a thorough inspection of the boiler system and development of a plan for corrective action.

Regional Municipality of Durham updates on DYEC stack test results

Whitby, Ont. – A recent stack test, initiated by Durham and York Regions, showed results for boiler #1 were in exceedance of the Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) limits for dioxins and furans at the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC). Stack test results for boiler #2 demonstrated that all emissions were well below ECA limits and the facility continues to operate with ‎boiler #2. Clarington May 25, 2016/- Clarington Council has decided to purchase a $2.7 million property that will serve as the future Courtice GO train station. The decision was made last night during a Council meeting. It reflects one of Council’s key goals, as outlined in its strategic plan, to facilitate the expansion of GO train service to Clarington.

Clarington firefighters raised $5,385.25 during a car wash fundraiser to help Fort McMurray as it rebuilds in the aftermath of a massive wildfire that destroyed much of the community. The money raised will be sent to Fort McMurray firefighters to donate back to the rebuilding efforts.
