Clarington January 14, 2019/- Clarington Emergency and Fire Services responded to a house fire in Bowmanville, in the Liberty Street and Concession Street East area. Nearby residents called for help at 11:59 a.m. today, reporting visible smoke.

When fire crews arrived, they found the fire isolated to the second storey, a bedroom upstairs. No one was home, and there were no injuries sustained. Five fire trucks responded, including the aerial truck with around 20 firefighters.

“The home had functioning smoke alarms, which is always a good thing. Even though no one was home, it is critical that residents ensure they have working smoke alarms. You never know when you will need them to alert you and save your family,” said Clarington Emergency and Fire Chief Gord Weir.

The cause of the fire is being investigated. There is substantial fire and smoke damage to the second floor of the home.
