Update # 23
Cedar Crest Beach Flooding
Issued: June 2, 2017
Time: 4:15 p.m.

Clarington/- A large-scale sandbagging effort is underway at East Beach and West Beach today and tomorrow. Multiple agencies and volunteers have joined today’s efforts including Clarington Operations crews, Clarington Emergency and Fire Services; crews from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF); students from Durham College, Fleming College, local high school students and residents.

The volunteers were split into a team of thirty and tackled each house in a large group. They placed around 2400 sandbags at five homes. Tomorrow, the volunteer effort will start at 8 a.m. and will finish at 4 p.m. Volunteers are to meet at the Dog Park on the corner of West Beach Road and Port Darlington. They will be divided into large teams and will be deployed to help individual homes; 15 more homes need assistance with sandbagging.

Residents in the area continue to prepare for more potential flooding and build sandbag walls around their homes as Lake Ontario levels remain at a record high and more wet weather is forecast. Today’s efforts concentrated on homes that needed further protection.

Access to local roads is restricted to Clarington crews, residents and volunteers only. The Municipality is asking onlookers to stay away from the area.

Clarington is asking Cedar Crest Beach and West Beach residents who have flooding concerns to contact the Municipality directly. This will help us track concerns and follow up with each resident directly. Here’s how you can reach us:
