Group Fitness Schedules

 

Registration continues for summer programs. Check back often as more programs become available throughout the summer. New sessions of outdoor fitness classes and 55+ Active Adults programs begin on July 26. Registration is available beginning June 30 at 7 a.m. at www.clarington.net/BeActive.

Our Orono Outdoor pool is open for pre-booked swim sessions. Register each Wednesday for the following week. A maximum of 20 swimmers will be allowed at each session. Aquafit will start on July 26, and swimming lessons will begin in August once Clarington moves into Step Three of the Province’s three-step Roadmap to Reopen.

We will continue to monitor updates from the Province as we slowly reopen and resume services following all Provincial guidelines. Stay up to date on the latest information on how COVID-19 is impacting our programs and services by visiting www.clarington.net/COVID-19.

 

Group Fitness Class with Kettle Bells

Clarington offers a variety of group fitness classes at locations throughout the Municipality. A limited offering of group fitness classes is now available.

Welcome to our gradual return to fitness in Clarington. This year, our outdoor summer fitness programs will take place over two six-week sessions. There are a few essential things to know before we get started. Step Two of the province's Roadmap to Reopen begins on June 30, 2021. During Step Two, all fitness classes will be held outdoors. Our facilities, including washrooms and change rooms will remain closed and unavailable for use. Please come dressed and ready for class. In the event of inclement or extreme weather, classes will be cancelled, participants notified, and credits applied where applicable. We encourage participants to dress appropriately for the weather, and bring water and a yoga mat to class. Closed-toe athletic shoes are mandatory for all classes except yoga.

  • COVID-19 Screening: If you have any COVID-19 symptoms or are concerned you may have been recently exposed, we ask that you stay home and contact the Durham Region Health Department for more information on how to proceed and how to get tested. When you arrive at class, you will be required to go through a screening process. Please keep your mask on, and maintain a physical distance as the instructor makes their way to you.
  • Masks: You will be required to wear a mask during the screening process and as you enter and exit class. You do not need to wear a mask while you exercise.
  • Physical distancing: Strict physical distancing of at least three metres between participants will be enforced at all times during class. Please be mindful of others as you exercise.
  • Equipment: Due to public health recommendations and safety guidelines, we cannot use our fitness equipment. If you wish to bring a pair of dumbbells or resistance band to class, you are welcome to do so, but this is not required.

Registration information

  • Registration for the first six-week session began on Wednesday, June 9, at 7 a.m. Registration for the second six-week session begins on Wednesday, June 30 at 7 a.m.
  • Step Two of the province's Roadmap to Reopen begins on June 30, 2021. During Step Two, group fitness classes will have a maximum of 12 participants plus the instructor. 
  • Registration can be completed online at www.clarington.net/BeActive or by phone at 905-623-5728 ext. 2552. Phone registration is open Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Please subscribe to our group fitness email list and stay up to date on the latest fitness news at www.clarington.net/subscribe.
  • No classes Thursday, July 1 (Canada Day), Monday, August 2 (Civic Holiday) or Monday, September 6 (Labour Day).

Outdoor class descriptions

Join our instructors as they lead you through an outdoor stroll, run or workout. No matter what class you choose, you can always work at your own intensity. All fitness levels are welcome. Please bring your own yoga/exercise mat and water to class.

 Dance/Cardio Classes
Come and dance your way to a healthier you. Elevate your heart rate, burn calories, and have fun in these energetic and enjoyable dance-inspired fitness classes. Find your own rhythm in any or all of these options, whatever the mood dictates. The bottom line, you will have a great time.
  • Zumba® is a high-energy, cardio dance workout that uses music and choreographed steps to form a fitness party atmosphere. No previous dance experience is required.
  • PoundFit® March to the beat of your own drum. Channel your inner rockstar with this full-body cardio jam inspired by the infectious, energizing, and sweat-dripping fun of playing the drums. All fitness levels welcome. *Drum sticks will be provided at each class.
Cardio/Strength Combo
These training classes are designed to get your heart rate soaring and tone and sculpt your body. Resistance exercises help you gain muscle strength and endurance, raise your metabolic rate and transform your body composition by reducing body fat and increasing lean muscle mass.
  • 20/20/20 This 60-minute class combines all of your favourite fitness components: 20 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of muscle conditioning and 20 minutes of stretching. Each class is taught a bit differently to accommodate each Fitness Instructor’s unique flair.
  • Cardio Core This class will increase core strength, balance and flexibility as you perform core work. This class will also incorporate cardiovascular exercise with a focus on strengthening your abdominals, lower back, hips and glute muscles. A wide variety of exercises, timed intervals, circuit work, and much more will create an invigorating workout to keep you coming back for more. 
  • Park Workout A fun easy to follow full-body workout in the park. Use functional, full-body exercises for this fun, efficient workout. This class will leave you feeling refreshed and stronger for everyday life.
Strength/H.I.I.T.

Classes are designed with high-intensity bursts of exercise followed by minimal rest. A variety of full-body exercises combined with heart-pounding cardiovascular exercises will be sure to have you feeling great this summer. No equipment is necessary, but if you have dumbbells, bands, or an exercise mat, please bring them to class with you.

  • Boot Camp Push your limits while playing with battle ropes, tires, agility ladders and more. Elevate your heart rate by using full-body functional training using large muscle movements to burn large amounts of calories and promote significant strength gains—an excellent workout for all fitness levels.
  • High-Intensity Interval Training (H.I.I.T.) Challenge yourself with this fast-paced workout that will hit every muscle group through various functional movements and equipment. Build strength, endurance, and power while burning a ton of calories.
  • Muscle Moves Take sculpting to the next level in this strength-based class, emphasizing full-body strength. This class is designed to help participants develop muscular endurance and strength for an active lifestyle. Emphasizes correct form instead of going for the burn.
  • Tabata training is a high-intensity interval training workout featuring exercises that last four minutes. You push yourself as hard as you can for 20 seconds and rest for 10 seconds, completing one set. You’ll complete eight sets of each exercise. Challenge yourself with this fast-paced workout that will hit every muscle group through a variety of functional movements. Build strength, endurance, and power while burning a ton of calories. No equipment is needed. 
Mind, Body & Core

Classes focus on developing mind/body awareness, concentrating on breath in movement, flexibility, core strength and postural alignment. Classes range from total relaxation to a more vigorous physical workout. Please bring your mat to class. 

  • Core and Stretch This workout focuses on strengthening the core with challenging exercises targeting the rectus abdominis, obliques, transverse abdominis, and lower back. Stretching exercises will focus on the entire body with a focus on the back and hips. Join us outdoors for this fun, challenging, yet relaxing workout.
  • Yin Yoga This class will combine the gentle healing of general yoga and the quiet awareness of a yin yoga practice. Relieve stress and fatigue while promoting inner peace and recovery. All fitness levels are welcome. 
  • Yoga Learn basic postures, stretches and breathing techniques to help align your body and help you to relax and de-stress.
  • Yogalates A fusion of yoga and Pilates, this class mixes both disciplines to develop core strength, tone and lengthen muscles, increase flexibility and reduce stress. Feel good about this choice.
Run/Walk Fitness Classes

Whether you are walking, running, skipping or hopping, these classes are designed to get you outside, get you moving and enjoy fitness with a group of people, physically distanced, of course. These classes will train you to avoid injury, increase speed, reduce fatigue, increase your recovery and, most of all, stay mentally motivated. No matter what your goals are, we’ll have a class that interests you.

  • Learn to Run The most important part of the journey is the beginning. This course is designed for the beginner who is overwhelmed to try running on their own. This program starts with the ABCs of running and slowly builds on the foundations that will nurture your love of running for years to come. No previous running experience necessary.

Virtual fitness
Registration is required for our Virtual Fitness Classes. Classes will accommodate all fitness levels. After registering, you will receive an email containing the weekly class links to join via Microsoft Teams. No software download necessary. You can access the class on your desktop or laptop computer, tablet or smartphone. Detailed instructions will accompany the welcome email. Register today for only $20.60 (+tax)
  • YogaThis workout will focus on strength and endurance, particularly in the lower body. No weights needed, just bodyweight exercises.
  • Muscle Moves Learn how to use the power of your own body to get strong and challenge yourself. Make strength gains and burn calories. No equipment is necessary. This class makes fitness fun and your goals a reality.

Spinning Class

We have some of the most dedicated and enthusiastic instructors who will motivate you to meet your personal fitness goals.

We offer Teen Fitness Training and Fitness Memberships for teens 13 to 17 years olds. Take our Teen Fitness Training course led by a Certified Personal Trainer to learn proper form and training techniques to be eligible for a youth fitness membership.
