Fitness Training Centre update

Clarington's Fitness Training Centre is now open with limited capacity and pre-registered one-hour workout time slots.

With the guidance of provincial and regional health authorities and leading fitness-industry experts, we’ve implemented new policies and procedures to ensure the safety of our members and staff.

Due to the fluid nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, the guidelines below are subject to change based on new advice from local health officials and ongoing evaluation.

All fitness participants must maintain three-metres of physical distance between themselves and others while in the fitness centre and during group fitness programs.

Advanced registration and limited capacity
  • The Fitness Centre will have capacity limits to meet physical distancing requirements, and pre-registration for hour-long sessions will be required.
  • Registration can be done online at www.clarington.net/BeACTIVE, or by telephone 905-623-3379 ext. 2552. Phone registration is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Registration will open on Tuesdays at 9 a.m. for the upcoming week Friday through Thursday. Members and pay-as-you-go users will be limited to one booking per day.
Pre-screening and arrival
  • Please arrive no more than ten minutes ahead of your scheduled time and line up in designated spots outside of the facility. Everyone arriving at the facility will be required to undergo a screening process before being admitted.
  • Members will need to scan their card at the front customer service desk, and at the gym entrance. New members or first-time pay-as-you-go participants will be required to attend the customer service desk; some additional paperwork is required.
Physical distancing and equipment
  • Strict three-metre physical distancing will be enforced throughout the facility, including in the fitness area. Some equipment will be marked as unavailable for use to assist with physical distancing.
  • Members will not be able to use machines beside those currently in use if it would mean that you cannot maintain a three-metre distance.
  • Yoga mats, yoga blocks and straps, resistance bands and tubes, exercise balls, foam rollers, neck pads, belts and the stretching platform have been temporarily removed.
  • Members will need to respect any markers guiding traffic or distancing throughout the facility.
  • Members should not share equipment with or spot other members who do not live in their household.
Cleaning
  • Prior to reopening, the facility and all equipment have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.
  • After each 60-minute workout block, the gym will close for 30-minutes to allow staff to conduct a deep cleaning and sanitization of equipment and high-touch points in the gym.
  • Participants are asked to sanitize all equipment with the available wipes before and after use.
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be available throughout the facility.
Use of masks
  • Participants will be required to wear a mask as they make their way through the facility. Masks are not required during your workout.
Personal training
  • Personal training and consultations will be temporarily unavailable during the initial phase of our reopening.
  • Certified Personal Trainers will be on-site and available to answer your questions or assist you with operating equipment.
