Financial Assistance

Inclusive Accessible Fair

We strive to provide affordable recreation programs for our residents. To make sure everyone has access to recreation, we offer financial assistance programs. This is offered for select programs and services based on eligibility criteria.

Fee Assistance Program

The Fee Assistance Program provides a $300 credit per person toward Community Services registered activities, memberships or 10-ticket passes.

Who qualifies
Clarington families and individuals who:
  • Receive Ontario Works,
  • Receive Ontario Disability Support Program income support, or
  • Meet the Low Income Cut-Off threshold as per Statistics Canada

The credit is valid for one calendar year from the date the application is approved.

The credit is non-transferable and cannot be carried over to the next application year.

Fee assistance does not include any extra costs of materials or supplies for programs.

All family members who live in the household must be listed on the application.

Supporting documentation

To be eligible for the Fee Assistance Program, copies of the following current documents must be submitted with the application form:

Proof of residency

Include one of the following documents with your application:

  • Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence
  • Utility Bill (hydro, gas, water)
  • Valid Ontario Photo Card
  • Property tax bill
  • Insurance policy (home, tenant, auto)
  • Mortgage, rental/lease agreement

Proof of income

One or more of the following documents showing net income/earnings for all adults must be provided:

  • Goods & Services/Harmonized Sales Tax Credit Notice
  • Ontario Child Care Supplement for Working Families Notice
  • Ontario Works monthly statement (including statement of deposit with address)
  • Ontario Disability Support Program monthly statement (including statement of deposit with address)
  • Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Notice of Assessment (T451) + proof of residency.
    *T451 is only valid for those applying as individuals, not families.

All supporting documents must be from the current tax year.

Ontario Works and Ontario Disability Support Program must be from the current month.

Membership Access Program

The goal of this program is to increase recreation opportunities for individuals with permanent disabilities by providing a reduced fee for fitness facility memberships.

Canadian Tire Jumpstart

The Canadian Tire Jumpstart program assists children living in Clarington, four to 18 years of age the opportunity to participate in sports and active recreational activities. Complete the application online, or contact any of our recreation facilities for more information.

Durham Region Social Services Certificate

The Community Services Department along with Durham Region Social Services offer Clarington residents, who are participants in the Ontario Works program, the opportunity to participate in recreation activities. To determine if you are eligible, contact the Region of Durham Social Services Department, at 905-428-8982.

Their Opportunity is a Durham Region organization that offers assistance to low-income families looking to enrol children in organized sports and recreation activities.
