Current Zoning By-Laws

The Official Plan sets out Clarington's general policies for future land use. Our Zoning By-laws implement the policies of the Official Plan and allow for its day-to-day administration by overseeing things like:

  • Land uses (retail stores, factories, residential homes, etc.)
  • The location of buildings
  • Building size and height
  • Building design
  • Other provisions which result in high quality development

Clarington has two zoning by-laws:

  • Zoning By-Law 84-63 regulates the development of land within Clarington between Lake Ontario and the Oak Ridges Moraine.
  • Zoning By-law 2005-109 applies to lands within Clarington that are located on the Oak Ridges Moraine.

The Municipality is undertaking a comprehensive review of our current zoning by-laws. Find out more on the ZONE Clarington project webpage.
