Clarington hosted two transportation hub workshops in June 2017. See the information below for presentation and background information presented at these workshops.
As the Municipality of Clarington plans for its future, transportation is a key focus to make sure our community is easily accessible.
With the extension of the GO Train Lakeshore East line to Courtice and Bowmanville, Clarington is looking to create a transportation hub around these stations. We want to create a community destination around these stations to promote ease of transportation and also a vibrant lifestyle. This hub is part of Transit Oriented Development (TOD). TOD promotes the creation of livable, walkable, pedestrian-oriented, higher density communities surrounding train stations.
The Municipality of Clarington wants to create a community-focused space around the GO stations that connects different modes of transportation and promotes various activities including working, shopping, living and leisure.
The Municipality of Clarington wants to create vibrant community space around GO stations so that our residents can easily access transit and also have various amenities in the area to make life easier. We want to create a space where you can walk or ride your bike to catch the train, on your way home you can stop to shop and also have dinner. Most importantly, you can do all that in the same area.
Clarington is looking to create two transportation hubs around both the future GO station in Courtice and the future GO station in Bowmanville.
This project is part of the Municipal planning process. Clarington's Planning Department is working with a consultant to design and create a vision for these transportation hubs.
This vision will be used to inform a number of Metrolinx Studies and will also form the basis for the Municipality's Secondary Plans for the Courtice and Bowmanville areas.
One of the key parts of the process is community engagement. The Municipality will hold workshops in the areas to get feedback and input from residents. We want to know your vision for the transportation hubs, what do you want the area to look and feel like?
