407 Extension

The extension of Highway 407 is a Ministry of Transportation (MTO) project. Currently, construction on phase 2 of the project is underway. Phase 2 involves the extension of Highway 407 by about 22 kilometres from Harmony Road in Oshawa to Highway 35/115 in Clarington. This includes the construction of Highway 418, a new four-lane, 10 kilometre highway that will connect Highway 407 to Highway 401 running north/south.

For more information on this project, please visit the Ministry of Transportation's Highway 407 project website.

Design and construction of Phase 2 began in 2015.  Phase 2 the Taunton Road/Highway 407 to Highway 35/115, and Highway 418 is scheduled to open by 2020.

As construction work continues, residents will see some road closures and detours in the area. Please see our detailed map and list of road closures to help you navigate the roads over the next few years of construction.

We encourage Clarington residents to visit the Highway 407 East Phase 2 website and register for email updates.
