Marriage Ceremonies

Are you looking for an experienced wedding officiant to make your wedding day simple?

Effectively immediately, the Municipality of Clarington will only accommodate marriage ceremonies and issue licences to Durham Region residents (i.e. at least one of the couple must live in Durham). This is a temporary restriction to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

You can get married in Council Chambers located on the second floor of the Municipal Administrative Centre. The Municipal Clerk or designate perform civil marriage ceremonies Monday through Friday.

Both parties must meet the Officiant at least one week prior to getting married and have a valid marriage licence. Pre-meetings are available in person or virtually, using Microsoft Teams.

  • Ceremony fee is $275 + HST = $310.75 (Cash, cheque, money order or debit).

Read more about authorized marriage officials to find out who can legally preside over your ceremony.

On the wedding day

Friends and family are welcome to attend. There is seating in the Council Chambers for a maximum of 25 guests including the couple and the officiant. Pictures and/or videos may be taken as this does not disrupt the ceremony.

Wedding photos and reception

The parlour, grounds, and veranda of the Waverley Place Museum can be rented for wedding photos or a reception, for an additional fee. The Museum offers a full wedding package including catering. Waverley Place is located within a block of the Municipal Administrative Centre, so you and your guests do not even need to move your vehicles. Contact the Clarington Museums & Archives to make these arrangements.
