Animal Shelter now open

The Clarington Animal Shelter is now open Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to purchase animal licences, drop off adoption applications, and drop off stray/unwanted animals.

To adopt an animal, fill out an online application with the animal ID/name of the animal you would like to adopt. We will contact you to discuss the animal’s needs, personality and ideal forever home. A video of the animal may be provided. Before you arrive to pick up your adopted pet, you will be required to set a date and time, and the handover will be contactless. Please call the animal shelter when you arrive to allow for COVID-19 screening before you enter the shelter. No entry is allowed past the locked doors in the lobby unless an appointment is made to visit an animal.

You can search online to view animals available for adoption or visit the Clarington Animal Shelter.

Adoption hours are Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Adoption fees

Adopt a dog: $95
Adopt a cat: $130

If cats/kittens are too young to be spayed or neutered, a $75 rebate certificate is provided once owners bring in proof of the above procedure within 120 days from the date of adoption.

Both cats and dogs are micro-chipped and have a first vaccine. You will receive a free Clarington municipal licence and 30 days of shelter care pet insurance.

Meet and greet

We encourage all family members, including dogs, to participate in the meet and greet portion of the adoption process to ensure your chosen pet is the right fit for the entire family. We would have you meet the dog of interest first and bring your dog back for a second visit.

Featured Pet

O'Malley the cat

My name is O'Malley, and I am a domestic short hair, orange tabby, neutered male. I enjoy being brushed. Sometimes I like to play with toy mice, but sometimes relaxing looking through the window is more enjoyable. I love attention and being pet.

Since coming to the shelter, I have been diagnosed as diabetic. I've started on a diabetic diet and medication to keep me feeling good. I will need someone willing to continue those things to keep me feeling well.

I am a sweetheart and waiting for a home to give me lots of attention and cuddles. For more information about adopting me, please contact the shelter. With COVID happening, the adoption process is slightly different, and only approved applications will be contacted for a possible meet and greet.
