Building Permits

The Municipality of Clarington continues to receive, process and issue building permits. Building inspections are also proceeding.

Permit applications can be submitted in any of the following ways:

  • By email to BuildingPermits@clarington.net
  • By mail or courier to 40 Temperance Street, Bowmanville ON L1C 3A6
  • In-person, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Municipal Administrative Centre located at 40 Temperance Street in Bowmanville

To help stop the spread of COVID-19, residents can continue to access our services by phone, online or by booking an appointment. If necessary, the Municipality will make special arrangements to conduct a building inspection virtually.

Requirements for residential building permits

In order to process building permit applications for new structures or additions to single detached dwellings, semi-detached, links, duplexes and townhouses, you will need to provide specific information or documents with your application.

How and where do I apply for a building permit?

When you are ready to apply, bring the required documents to:
Municipal Administrative Centre (3rd Floor)
40 Temperance Street, Bowmanville

You will need to fill out the building permit application and pay the fee. We will review your submission to ensure compliance with the Ontario Building Code, the Ontario Building Code Act, the zoning by-law and all applicable laws. We will issue your building permit promptly if the proposed construction meets all the requirements.
