Storm Sewer Connection

Storm sewers collect rain and run-off from melting snow on your property to prevent flooding and redirect the water to nearby storm water management ponds, creeks or lakes.

If you are developing on a vacant lot that does not already have water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer stubs to the property line, the foundation weepers will have to be connected to an available municipal storm sewer in the road.

The property owner is responsible for all costs to connect to the storm sewer. Typically, the Region installs the storm sewer connection to the property line when they install the water and sanitary sewer connections to the property line.

If only a storm sewer connection is required, the property owner will need to hire a qualified contractor to install the connection. This work may require that a consulting engineer be retained to design the connection and prepare a drawing for the contractor. In this case, the Municipality must approve the drawing in advance of the work. The contractor will need to apply for a Road Occupancy Permit, provide proof of insurance to the satisfaction of the Director of Financial Services and provide a road damage deposit we will refund once all the work in the roadway has been completed and inspected to the satisfaction of the Building Services Division. There is no charge for the Road Occupancy Permit.
