Clarington asks residents to help keep beaches safe and clean

Clarington July 22, 2020/-  As we see more and more people enjoying our beaches, the Municipality of Clarington is asking residents to take on a collective responsibility to keep the beaches safe and clean. Clarington has created some additional rules and signs to respond to concerns raised by residents regarding garbage and some unsafe beach activities.

As restrictions loosen and residents head outdoors to enjoy community space, we must respect one another and keep our outdoor spaces clean. To that end, Clarington will be posting signs in our beach areas, including parking restrictions and some common beach use etiquette.

Parking will be restricted around the beach areas to ensure that local roads are passable and easily accessible for residents living in the area as well as emergency services. Signs will be posted outlining beach use rules, including no dogs allowed, no smoking, no campfires, no alcohol, no cooking or barbecuing, no littering, and no camping. Portable washrooms are available for public use at each beach location. Municipal Law Enforcement Officers will be patrolling the beaches to educate residents and also to ensure that these rules are followed.

“We want to encourage our residents to enjoy our waterfront and beach area. But we have a collective responsibility to keep the area safe and clean for everyone. These are simple rules that will assist in maintaining this pristine and beautiful space,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.
