Clarington June 30, 2020/- Clarington is running our highly-popular summer camps. However, due to COVID-19 and the strict restrictions on camps imposed by the Province, camps will be modified.
Registration for camps begins on Tuesday, July 7, starting at 7 a.m. Registration will take place online only through our Be Active Clarington website. Camps will begin on July 20 and will be located at four separate facilities:
Due to strict physical distancing requirements, camp size has been reduced and there are limited spaces available. There will be a maximum of eight children and two camp counsellors per camp. Each facility will only run one camp a week, to ensure distancing and separation, with the exception of Diane Hamre Recreation Complex (DHRC). There will be two camps weekly at DHRC as it is large enough to provide separation between camps and campers.
Camp participants will undergo strict COVID-19 screening, including questions about COVID-19-related symptoms, temperature checks, travel history, and more. Children will not be allowed to participate in the camp if they or a member of their household has answered yes to any of the following criteria:
If you have responded yes to any of the above, your child will be asked to stay home and self-isolate. You will be asked to contact Durham Public Health for further screening, evaluation and possible approval to return to camp.
“The health and safety of all campers and staff is our main priority. We realize that this year, camps will be different, and activities will be modified. But I am confident that our highly-trained staff can offer children the best possible experience,” said George Acorn, Director of Community Services.
View our summer camps booklet for all the information, registration codes and pricing. Camps will be open for children aged six to 12 to allow siblings or participants living in the same household to attend the same camp.
“We know that parents are putting their faith and confidence in our ability to keep their kids entertained and healthy. We are approaching these camps with an abundance of caution and enforcing strict health measures and sanitization protocols. We want to ensure that campers have the best experience in a safe environment,” added Director Acorn.
