Clarington responds to resident concerns over blowing dust

Clarington March 16, 2017/- The Municipality of Clarington has been responding to concerned residents in North Bowmanville after recent wind storms dispersed significant amounts of dust from the development site at Concession Road 3 and Middle Road. The cold, dry, weather conditions and lack of snow cover allowed the wind to spread the material to neighbouring properties.

After discussions with the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC), as well as local area developers, additional dust control measures, have been put in place that will enhance requirements set out during the development process.

“Now that the wind has died down, the developer is applying dust suppressant material,” said Director of Engineering Anthony Cannella. “Additional measures may also be implemented subject to future weather conditions.”

Municipal staff will continue to monitor the site as development continues to ensure that the appropriate measures are carried out to minimize the risk of this situation from reoccurring.

Residents with questions or concerns can contact the Manager of Construction, Tony Ricciardi at the Municipality of Clarington by calling 905-623-3379.
