Garbage bag tags become Region’s first online transaction option

The Regional Municipality of Durham has made the purchase of garbage bag tags available online through durham.ca, to residents living in Ajax, Brock, Clarington, Pickering, Scugog and Uxbridge. Residents living in Whitby and Oshawa can purchase garbage tags online through their local municipal websites.

This is the Region‚Äôs first e-commerce payment option, meaning that it can be completed directly through durham.ca with a credit card or credit-enabled debit card‚ÄĒwithout the need to add the Region as a payee with an affiliated bank.

Residents can fill out an online order form, make a credit card or debit payment and submit their order. The Region will then mail the garbage tags to your home. Residents will be able to pay with Visa, MasterCard, Visa Debit and Debit MasterCard.

Due to COVID-19, the Region has been modernizing how services are delivered to Durham residents in order to better meet the service demands of this unprecedented time.

While many local facilities remain closed, this new online transaction is a contactless way for residents to purchase garbage bag tags, ensuring physical distancing and avoiding cash handling to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

You can place up to four garbage bags at the curb every other week for collection, however additional bags or cans can be set out, as long as they have garbage bag tags attached. Residents are encouraged to practice waste reduction efforts as much as possible and only use garbage bag tags when absolutely necessary.

Visit durham.ca/WasteCollection for more information, or complete the online order form to purchase garbage bag tags online.
