Mayor Foster thanks the Province for investing in seniors

Clarington July 28, 2020/- Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster issued the following statement today in response to two separate announcements from the Province.

“I want to thank the Province for their ongoing support and commitment to our community. Today’s announcement and support for our vulnerable older population will make a difference, especially during these challenging times. The $2.6 million Ontario is investing in the Parkview Seniors Lodge expansion will assist in filling a much-needed gap for affordable seniors’ housing in Clarington. The expansion will add 37 new units, of which 30 will be affordable.

Additionally, we are happy to hear that our neighbours in Ajax will be getting a new long-term care home by the end of next year. This will add 320 new long-term care beds for the Durham Region, helping to ease the burden on a waitlist that’s twice as long as any other place in Ontario.

We look forward to working with the Provincial government and partnering on future initiatives to assist our seniors and the most vulnerable people in our community. The path to recovery is a long one, but today’s announcements give us hope for a better tomorrow,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.

Mayor Foster was responding to this morning’s announcement by the Minister of Municipal Affairs Steve Clark committing $2.6 million to the Parkview Seniors Lodge expansion in Newcastle. The investment is part of a joint federal-provincial Social Infrastructure fund. This afternoon, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced the construction of a new long-term care home at Lakeridge Health’s Ajax Pickering Hospital site with 320 new beds expected by the end of 2021.
