Network Security Analyst (Union Position)

The duties and responsibilities of the Network Security Analyst are performed under the supervision of the Network Administration Supervisor. This position provides technical expertise for network infrastructure with an emphasis on IT security. Strong technical and problem-solving skills are essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Implementing new networking hardware and solutions.
  • Configuring network firewalls and switches with an emphasis on security.
  • Maintaining corporate servers to keep them secure.
  • Keeping up to date on current cyber threats.
  • Maintaining and enhancing network and cloud security.
  • Responding to security-related, IT support tickets.
  • Providing direction and guidance to peers related to IT security.
  • Producing a variety of reports related to networking and security.
  • Performing vulnerability and risk assessments, followed by remediation.
  • Security incident response planning and investigating.
  • Addressing network and security issues across a variety of Municipal software and projects.
  • Administering cybersecurity training programs.
  • Creating and maintaining network diagrams and documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Computer Science degree or diploma from a recognized college or university specializing in networking and security or possess the equivalent education and experience to the satisfaction of the Director of Financial Services/Treasurer.
  • Active information security certifications would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of demonstrated networking/security-related experience.
  • Experience in enterprise networking environments is preferred.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting ability is essential.
  • Ability to conduct independent research to solve problems and implement innovative solutions.
  • Ability to apply knowledge and experience to determine priorities, coordinate work and manage time effectively.
  • Knowledge of IP addressing, VLANs, and subnetting/network segmentation.
  • Knowledge of network protocols and network communication principles.
  • Experience with Microsoft networks, operating systems, and Active Directory.
  • Experience with Office 365 and Azure cloud technologies would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with network hardware configuration (firewalls, switches, AP’s, etc.). Juniper switches specifically would be an asset.
  • Experience with log management and analysis.
  • Other experience that would be an asset: DHCP; DNS; scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell); VMware; project management skills.
  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work independently or with a team.
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada.

The interview may include written, oral and/or practical testing to assist in determining the successful candidate. The minimum passing score will be 60% on each test, with consideration given to the candidate with the highest score.

The successful candidate will be required to provide, at their own expense:

A current satisfactory (within the last 180 days) Criminal Records Check (CPIC) from a Canadian Police Information Centre is required before commencing employment. Applicants who have been employed with the Municipality within the last year and have provided a CPIC within the last 365 days are exempt.

Rate of pay:  $68,282 to $78,432 - Code 12, 2020 Inside Collective Salary Grid, Subject to Pay Equity.
