New construction is growing in Clarington according to building permit report

Clarington September 15, 2015/- Construction is thriving in Clarington. A building permit report for April, May and June presented before the General Government Committee shows that construction is up by 103.6 per cent, compared to the same period in 2014.

The report highlights all building permits granted from April until the end of June this year. During that time period, the Municipality issued 440 new residential housing unit permits as compared to 170 at the same time in 2014. More than half of the permits issued, 52 per cent, were for apartments, 36 per cent were for single detached housing, 10 per cent for semi-detached housing and two per cent for townhomes. Bowmanville is seeing the majority of new construction with 322 new residential units approved this year, Courtice saw 185 and Newcastle saw 26.

The Municipality has granted some high value permits including:

  • Ontario Power Generation, Radiation waste storage building worth $30,000,000,
  • Aspen Gardens Ltd. Condominium Building in Bowmanville on 84 Aspen Springs Drive worth $15,876,800,
  • Aspen Gardens Ltd. Condominium Building in Bowmanville on 80 Aspen Springs Drive worth $14,785,600.

These positive building permit numbers have increased the year-to-date construction value to 20.7 per cent higher than the same time last year.
