June 9, 2020 —Clarington Public Library will begin offering contactless pick-up for Library items as of June 15.
The Library will phase in curbside pick-up - a “Library Take-Out Service” - from the Courtice and Newcastle Branches to help connect their members with learning and leisure materials they have been missing since mid-March.
“We are delighted to begin the process of re-connecting our residents with physical books and movies,” says Linda Kent, CEO of Clarington Public Library, Museums, & Archives. “We know that access to all types of library materials is important to the well- being of our community. While our digital collection is very robust, people often prefer reading and enjoying a printed book.”
Library card holders can place holds on items through the Library’s online catalogue, mobile app, or by calling the Library at 905-623-7322 ext. 2712. When items are ready for pick-up, staff will contact members via phone or email, at which point items may be picked up following a contactless process during any of the Library Take-Out Service hours at the Courtice and Newcastle branches. As the Bowmanville Branch remains under renovation, Take-Out Service hours will not be available there at this time. All branches remain closed to the public.
Maintaining the safety of staff and public is the highest priority as this new Take-Out Service is implemented. Staff will observe physical distancing from one another and the public, as well as using appropriate personal protective equipment during their shifts.
Items will be isolated when they are returned to the Library prior to being lent again. “We will take the utmost care to ensure our items and branches are clean and safe,” says Kent. “We thank everyone for their patience as we work to provide a safe environment for our staff and Library members.”
More information about the Library’s Take-Out Service is available on their website, www.clarington-library.on.ca/takeout and staff are available to answer questions via email at info@clarington-library.on.ca or through social media channels @ClaringtonLib.
