Come virtually together and share a love of reading. To help combat feelings of social isolation, Clarington Public Library has launched an online book club to encourage readers to connect over a good book.
The Library will lead it’s first virtual book club this Thursday, April 23 at 2 p.m. featuring the title The Mountains Sing by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai. This gripping multi-generational tale of the Trần family, set against the backdrop of the Việt Nam War, brings to life the human costs of this conflict from the point of view of the Vietnamese people. The eBook and downloadable audiobook are available online to anyone with a Clarington Public Library card. No card? No problem – get a virtual Library card online via www.clarington-library.on.ca/ecard.
The program is free to “drop-in” – contact info@clarington-library.on.ca to get the meeting link. The next title will be announced at the virtual meeting, for discussion on May 7. Get more information, and access to the selected title at www.clarington-library.on.ca/ebookclub
The Library is also supporting DIY-virtual book clubs by connecting club facilitators with eBooks and downloadable audiobooks that can be borrowed by multiple people simultaneously. Discussion questions are available for use to get your meeting started. As well, the Library continues to offer other virtual programs and services such as Bibliotherapy meetings Wednesdays at 2 p.m. and Storytime videos available anytime. See www.clarington-library.on.ca/eprograms for more, and check back regularly!
“We are striving to offer services to help our community feel more connected,” says Linda Kent, CEO of Clarington Public Library, Museums, & Archives. “Our staff are continually working to bring our regular programs online to support our Library members and the wider community with learning and leisure resources.”
