The Municipality provides programs and services to the community based on an annual Operating and Capital budget.
When Municipalities set budget priorities, they need a balanced approach to ensure residents enjoy the same, and in some cases, increased services.
In Clarington, we budget for annual capital expenditures that include long-term future projects such as parks and new roadways, as well as rehabilitation of existing assets and property. We also prepare an annual operating budget that pays for all the day-to-day services the Municipality provides. The operating budget helps pay for the maintenance of the capital projects.
As the cost of living goes up, so does the cost of services we provide. But, our services are still affordable. For example, a one per cent increase to taxes means residents would pay about an extra $13 per household on the Clarington portion of their bills.
