COVID-19 Tax Relief Program Available 

Clarington's COVID-19 Tax Relief Program is available for taxpayers negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The property tax relief program will only cover the local, municipal portion of the tax bill, which amounts to roughly 30 per cent of the overall bill. The relief program spans from March 17, when the Province declared an emergency, until June 19, when Clarington entered Stage 2 of Ontario‚Äôs reopening framework. Residents will need to apply for the tax relief program and will have to meet strict criteria.

Instalment due dates

Property tax bills are issued twice each year with two instalments each for a total of four payments. The instalment due dates for 2020 are:

Properties enrolled in our monthly pre-authorized payment plan will receive only a final tax bill each year. Your final tax bill will state any changes to your monthly withdrawal amount to take effect from July 1 to November 1, as well as provide your December 1 withdrawal amount for the upcoming year.

Property owners who have a mortgage company making payment on their behalf will receive only a final tax bill each year.

Supplementary tax bills

Supplementary tax bills, which represent additional assessment on your property determined by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC), are sent out monthy from July to November.

The Assessment Act gives MPAC authority to correct any missed assessment for the current year plus up to two years prior. Homeowners will receive notification directly from MPAC prior to receiving tax information from the Municipality.
