Advisory Committees and Boards


The Municipality of Clarington establishes advisory committees and boards to fulfil a variety of mandates and to make recommendations to Council. Most committees include members of the public, as well as members of Council. Volunteering to sit on an advisory board or committee is one of the many ways residents can serve their community.

Selection Process

Most committees are appointed for the same four year term as Council. Shortly after the municipal election, we advertise for appointments to boards and committees. Occasionally, vacancies occur during the four-year term.

We encourage those interested in sitting on a board or committee to submit an application throughout the year. We will contact you if a vacancy occurs. You are responsible to ensure that the Municipal Clerk's Office has received your application. Council will appoint qualified applicants to vacancies based on the application submitted. We will notify all applicants of the final decision by mail.

Durham Region Land Division Committee To consider Land Severance applications as an alternative means of subdividing land to that of formal plan of subdivision. 1

Energy From Waste – Waste Management Advisory Committee To act in an advisory role to the Region of Durham’s Works Committee on issues or concerns which arise with waste diversion, waste management, environmental performance and monitoring of the Durham York Energy Centre.
