The Municipal Elections Act, 1996, requires that every municipality appoint a compliance audit committee prior to October 1 of an election year. Candidates are bound by specific election campaign finance rules. An elector who believes a candidate has broken one of the rules can seek a compliance audit. The mandate of the compliance audit committee is to:
Minimum of three members, appointed by Council prior to October 1 of an election year.

The Committee meets as needed, with meetings to be scheduled by the Municipal Clerk, in consultation with the Chair, when a compliance audit application is received.
$400 per member as a retainer fee (includes compensation for review of any background materials)
$350 per member for each committee meeting, plus mileage
$200 per member for attendance at training
