Payment Options

The Municipality of Clarington offers many convenient ways for you to pay your property taxes, including online, by phone, by mail, in person, at your bank or by pre-authorized payment. See details about each payment method below.

Banks or online banking

  • Tax payments may be made at most banks or financial institutions including online and telephone banking. A banking fee may apply.
  • Your account number will be 15 digits taken from your roll number shown on your tax bill.
  • At most financial institutions, when setting up the bill payer, type "Clarington"
  • To pay at your branch, your bill payment stub is required.

Pre-authorized payment plans

We offer four pre-authorized payment plans to choose from.

  1. Monthly Plan
Payments are spread over 12 months from December to the following November with no penalty.
  2. Instalment Plan
The amount of the instalment is withdrawn from your account on the due dates shown on your tax bill.
  3. Supplementary Plan
A 12-month plan (December to November) to assist in planning for supplementary taxes on newly constructed homes.
  4. Arrears Plan
Monthly payment amounts stated on your application will be deducted from your bank account on the first day of each month. Penalty/interest charges will apply to this plan only.

By mail

Please send your cheque(s) to:

Municipality of Clarington
Tax Department
40 Temperance Street
Bowmanville, ON L1C 3A6

We accept postdated cheques. There is a 24-hour drop box on the north side of the building (Church Street accessible ramp entrance).

In person

To pay in person, you will need your entire tax bill. We accept interac/debit payments, cheque or cash.

The Tax Department is located on the main floor of the Municipal Administrative Centre, located at 40 Temperance Street in Bowmanville. The building is wheelchair accessible from the Church Street entrance.

Mortgage Company

The municipality sends the tax bill to the mortgage company for payment and you will receive a copy of the final tax bill in the mail. Your Mortgage Company's name will appear on your tax bill. If the mortgage company's name does not appear, please contact them immediately.

If you don't receive a tax notice

Failure to receive a tax notice does not eliminate the responsibility for the payment of taxes and penalty. If you are responsible for paying property taxes and do not receive a notice, please contact the Tax Department at 905-623-3379.
