As the community continues to grow, Clarington works hard to manage new development in a responsible, environmentally friendly way ensuring that our community supports mixed-housing and provides options for all residents. The Municipality also work hard to ensure the community retains its ‘small town feel.’

To ensure that community growth is well-planned and environmentally sound, the Municipality established the Priority Green Clarington initiative. The goal is to reduce the environmental impact of development and set new standards for sustainability, green construction and improving the quality of life. The Municipality established the 'Green Clarington: Green Development Framework and Implementation Plan' that sets out standards and criteria for building livable and walkable neighbourhoods.

Clarington also adopted a Transportation Master Plan that aims to improve how our residents get around. The plan focuses on all aspects of transportation and looks at ways to promote active modes including cycling and walking. Clarington continues to add to its trail network. With over 21 kilometres of off-road recreation trails and access to the waterfront, residents can enjoy the beauty of our community. The Municipality also established an Active Transportation and Safe Roads Advisory Committee to advise Council on all aspects of active transportation.

Clarington has a rich history and unique ‘small town feel’ that residents cherish and want to preserve. Clarington works closely with the Jury Lands Foundation and other local volunteers to promote and develop Historic tours. Clarington Tourism assists with the promotion of Doors Open Clarington, an event that draws crowds and allows people to set foot in historic buildings and learn about the area. In 2018, Clarington Tourism launched a video that showcases local experiences, festivals, attractions and sites.
