BrowseAloud is a free speech and reading tool available on our website. BrowseAloud can:

  • Read web pages aloud in a natural-sounding voice in multiple languages
  • Read PDF and Word documents in their original format
  • Highlight each word as it is spoken to show you where you are on the page
  • Magnify text to your chosen font size and font style
  • Translate word-for-word between English, French, Spanish, German, Italian and many other languages
  • Look-up dictionary definitions
  • Mask information on the screen to help you focus on a particular area
  • Convert text to MP3

Who is it for?

BrowseAloud can be used by anyone who needs it. It may be particularly helpful to individuals with print disabilities, dyslexia, low literacy and mild visual impairments. It can also assist people learning English as a second language, by providing translation.

How do I use it?

Click on the BrowseAloud button on top right corner of this website to launch the BrowseAloud toolbar, then simply highlight text and choose the function that will assist you.
