Clarington-wide internet access is crucial for our residents who rely on stable connections, especially when people are working and learning at home and depend on virtual entertainment.
The Municipality has been working with several internet service providers and the federal and provincial governments to increase connectivity to as many households across Clarington as possible. Most recently, Clarington shared that its infrastructure services team is working with Rogers Communications to expand broadband internet access across the municipality. This work is expected to begin May 30, 2025 and continue over the next year.
About the project:
Through the Accelerated-High Speed Internet program, the Government of Ontario has committed nearly $4 billion to bring access to reliable, high-speed internet to unserved and underserved communities across the province by the end of 2025. Rogers Communications, a recipient of this funding, will begin installing 200 route kms of new fibre on 171 kms of municipal roads, including:
Residents will be notified by Rogers Communications through door-to-door outreach and on-site signage. Residents can reach out to the Roger’s contractor at 905-240-9572 or customercare@apexfibre.ca.
Clarington is committed to responsible growth, which includes continued advocacy to ensure every resident has access to reliable, high-speed internet. This expansion will ensure that more Clarington residents have access to fast, reliable internet and supports C.1.1 of Clarington’s 2024-2027 Strategic Plan.
We have compiled a list of some of the known internet service providers in the area. The Municipality does not endorse one company over the other. These are some of the companies that provide services throughout Clarington.
You don’t mention my area in the service coverage. How do I find out what broadband services are available in my area? |
We would advise that you contact the main service providers listed on this page to discuss availability and services in your area. If you live in a pocket with service gaps, please fill out our form with the details, and staff will follow up with you. |
Why doesn’t the Municipality ensure that residents in Clarington have equitable access to the internet? |
The Municipality does not provide broadband services. Clarington works with private internet service providers to ensure that our community is connected. Unfortunately, these types of services require significant financial investments that some of these companies cannot make on their own. Through the Accelerated-High Speed Internet program, the Government of Ontario has committed nearly $4 billion to bring access to reliable, high-speed internet to unserved and underserved communities across the province by the end of 2025. |
Why is it so difficult to get reliable internet and cellphone connections in rural Clarington? |
Private service providers are working to address services. It is quite costly to invest in some remote and rural areas where building infrastructure to support a single home may be cost-prohibitive. Contact a private service provider for more details. |
