The Municipality of Clarington is responsible for maintaining, improving and overseeing construction on all municipal roads and road-related public infrastructure (roads, bridges, storm sewers, storm water management ponds, street lighting, roadway cycling facilities, sidewalks, and parking lots) within our jurisdiction.
We provide comprehensive snow clearing and ice control operations during the winter months as well as street cleaning, pothole repair and crack sealing of asphalt roadways during the summer months. We also manage improvements to existing roadways and related public infrastructure. We perform regular assessments on the condition of the roads and infrastructure to determine where your tax money is best spent, and where we need to make improvements.
We plan for the various maintenance and improvement projects in our annual Municipal budget.

| How are potholes identified, tracked and repaired across Clarington? |
| Daily freeze–thaw cycles cause pavement to expand and contract, leading to potholes forming quickly through the winter. To stay ahead of these conditions, our Works Division conducts daily road patrols. Any potholes found are recorded, and work orders are created and assigned to staff. When crews are not responding to a winter event, we assign as many staff as possible to pothole patching. During winter months, repairs are completed using temporary cold‑patch materials, with permanent repairs scheduled once temperatures allow. |
