Clarington, Ontario — In a proactive step toward improving pedestrian and cyclist safety near railway crossings, the Municipality of Clarington has installed Look Listen Live safety decals on sidewalks and roadways leading up to several CPKC and CN rail crossings in Courtice, Bowmanville and Newcastle. These bright yellow decals serve as visual reminders for residents to remain alert and cautious when approaching railway tracks.
The decals were generously provided at no cost to the Municipality by Operation Lifesaver Canada, through their Look. Listen. Live. Community Safety Partnership Program. This national initiative, launched in partnership with HUB Surface Systems, aims to reduce railway crossing incidents by encouraging municipalities to implement local safety measures.
“These decals are a simple yet powerful reminder for everyone – whether you’re out for a stroll, riding your bike, or rolling along – to stop for a second to look, listen, and stay safe around railway tracks. We’re thankful to Operation Lifesaver for helping to make Clarington a safer place for all of us,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.

Mayor Foster and members of Council unveiled the decals during Rail Safety Week, which runs from September 15 to 21 across Canada. Rail Safety Week aims to raise awareness about the importance of safety near rail tracks and prevent railway incidents by educating Canadians about the hazards surrounding railway properties and trains.
