More than 20,000 residents came together on July 1 at Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex to celebrate Canada Day with friends, family, and neighbours. Guests enjoyed surprises around every corner, including live music, local vendors, action-packed activities and more. The celebration reflected Clarington’s heart and community spirit, with everyone gathering to watch fireworks light up the sky to close out a remarkable evening.
Following the Colour Party presented by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 178 Bowmanville, Mayor Foster and Members of Council shared their appreciation for the volunteers, businesses, residents, and staff who brought the celebration to life. They were joined by MP Jamil Jivani of Bowmanville-Oshawa North, MP Philip Lawrence of Northumberland-Clark, Durham MPP Todd McCarthy, as well as Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board Trustee Kathleen Flynn, and Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland and Clarington Catholic School Board Trustee Joshua Glover, all celebrating the spirit of togetherness that makes Clarington shine.
"I couldn’t be prouder of how our community came together for an unforgettable Canada Day in Clarington. There’s nothing better than celebrating alongside family, friends, and neighbours, all enjoying great entertainment, delicious food, and the kindest crowds you could ask for. Days like this remind us why we love living in this welcoming, amazing community. Thanks to everyone who joined the festivities and to all those whose hard work made this incredible day possible,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.
The event featured the Together, we are Clarington interactive station, where residents made heartfelt pledges to “Be the change,” inspiring others to embrace diversity and come together in building a more inclusive and welcoming community.
Inside the arena, Clarington’s heart was on full display as the Seeds of Hope Project’s Knock Down Hunger Challenge wowed the crowd. A total of 9,596 cereal boxes toppled in a massive domino chain, all in support of Feed the Need in Durham, turning a fun and unforgettable moment into a powerful act of community care.
The Municipality of Clarington extends a big thank you to everyone who made the night such a success—from the residents who came out to celebrate, to the dedicated staff, volunteers, performers, vendors, and generous sponsors, including the Government of Canada and Ontario Power Generation’s The Power for Change Project.
