Clarington, Ontario – With more residents choosing electric vehicles (EVs), Clarington has expanded its network to a total of 36 public charging points across the community – including the municipality’s first Level 3 DC fast charger at the Diane Hamre Recreation Complex.
This expansion supports Clarington’s journey to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, as outlined in the municipality’s Corporate Climate Action Plan. Clarington is proud to be part of Ontario’s growing EV charging network and remains committed to building greener, more connected communities. The municipality received a $120,000 funding allocation towards these new chargers, thanks to Ontario’s EV ChargeON Program. This is in addition to $60,000 in grant funding through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) in 2024.
“As we invest in EV infrastructure, we’re not just installing chargers — we’re building a more sustainable Clarington. These new stations will help residents make the switch to electric, reduce emissions, and support the future of clean transportation in our community,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.
Thirteen new charging points can be accessed at these locations:

Standing in front of Clarington’s first Level 3 fast charger, Mayor Adrian Foster is joined by Councillor Ward 4 Margaret Zwart, Regional Councillor Wards 3 and 4 Willie Woo, Councillor Ward 2 Lloyd Rang, along with Todd McCarthy, MPP for Durham to mark a milestone in the municipality’s growing electric vehicle charging network.
Residents and visitors can now take advantage of 36 charging points across Clarington.
“Our government is investing over $180 million to expand access to EV charging infrastructure across Ontario,” said Prabmeet Sarkaria, Ontario’s Minister of Transportation. “We’re making it easier than ever to own and operate an electric vehicle while protecting Ontario’s EV manufacturing industry, which has attracted billions of dollars in global investments, cementing our position as a world leader in the EV industry.”
“Under the leadership of Premier Doug Ford and Minister Lecce, our Ontario government is committed to supporting the adoption of electric vehicles across the province by increasing our investment in new EV charging stations across Clarington. Our residents will have a convenient charging hub, reinforcing our commitment to emission reductions and a cleaner environment,” said Todd McCarthy, MPP for Durham. “Electric vehicles reduce pollution and emissions and moves us toward a sustainable future that is both innovative and responsible.”
The Municipality of Clarington is actively pursuing valuable external funding opportunities, reducing dependency on the property tax base while supporting the delivery of meaningful municipal services. Clarington is thankful for the support from Ontario’s EV ChargeON Program and Natural Resources Canada’s ZEVIP, because more chargers mean more choice and convenience for residents who choose EVs.
