Clarington, Ontario – As we mark National Indigenous History Month, Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster has issued the following statement.
“From reflecting on the heart-wrenching history of Residential Schools to embracing the meaning behind land acknowledgements, National Indigenous History Month gives us a chance to engage deeply with the rich legacy and invaluable contributions of Indigenous Peoples who have shaped our community and country.
Here in Clarington, we celebrate the resilience, strength, and incredible contributions of Indigenous Peoples. We also honour their courage in facing past injustices and the challenges of discrimination that persist today. As we live and work on the treaty lands of the Mississaugas and Chippewas of the Anishinaabe, part of the Williams Treaties First Nations, we renew our commitment to learning, respecting, and cultivating meaningful connections with Indigenous communities.”
