Clarington, Ontario – In honour of Red Dress Day, the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, and Girls, Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster has issued the following statement.
“Today, we honour the lives of every Indigenous woman, girl, and Two-Spirited person who we have lost to colonial and gender-based violence in Canada. We stand with victims, survivors, their families, and allies as they demand justice.
Red Dress Day is a stark reminder of the staggering number of missing and murdered Indigenous women in Canada. This ongoing national crisis requires urgent action on the Calls for Justice issued by the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. We all have a responsibility to build a nation where every person is safe, respected, and valued.”
