Imagine stepping away from the hustle and bustle of urban life into the scenic, tranquil beauty of a 13.7-hectare (34-acre) municipal park—right in the heart of Clarington. It all starts now: Clarington is taking the next big step in transforming the former Bowmanville Zoo lands into a vibrant public space—one that immerses visitors in the natural beauty of Soper Creek and its surrounding environment.
Phase 1 of the Bowmanville Park Master Plan is officially underway. This first phase focuses on assessing the existing bridge and designing scenic trails that will connect people to nature and reflect the community’s vision for the park. The trails will offer a tranquil, accessible experience for visitors of all ages and abilities, just minutes from downtown Bowmanville.
Clarington staff explore the former Bowmanville Zoo lands in preparation for trail development.
Trail development marks the beginning of a bold vision to create an imaginative municipal park that honours the legacy of Soper Creek and the former zoo lands. Construction of the trails is expected to begin in fall 2025, with a public opening planned for 2026.
