The Municipality of Clarington is proud to launch Together, We Are Clarington, a bold new initiative that invites the entire community to embrace diversity and take meaningful action against racism, discrimination, and hate.
As Clarington continues to grow, so does the opportunity—and responsibility—to foster a more inclusive, welcoming, and connected community. The campaign encourages residents, organizations, and businesses to reflect on their role in building a municipality where everyone feels safe, respected, and empowered, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, ability, sexual orientation, or identity.
“With the troubling rise in hate-motivated incidents across Clarington and Durham Region, this campaign is a powerful call to action. It reminds us that we all have a role to play in standing up to hate and creating a community where everyone belongs. Your voice matters: if you witness discrimination or acts of hate, don’t stay silent. Speak up, report it. Clarington’s spirit lies in the incredible people who call it home. Together, we are Clarington, and we share a commitment to help make Clarington a community where everyone feels safe and valued,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.
This is another way Clarington is taking meaningful action to help foster a sense of belonging and create a more inclusive, equitable and safe community for everyone. The campaign supports the Municipality’s 2024-27 Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Anti-Racism (IDEA) Strategy, which is focused on creating and supporting a connected, dynamic and welcoming community focused on creating a bright future together.
“Let’s be clear: hate and discrimination, if left unchecked, will touch every corner of our community. At this moment in Clarington’s history, as we grow and embrace greater diversity, it’s pivotal that we reaffirm our dedication to building a respectful and welcoming community. Through this campaign, we recognize there is still work to be done and celebrate the significant strides we have made,” said Regional Councillor Granville Anderson, the Council Representative for Clarington’s Diversity Advisory Committee.
