You can run.

Clarington’s Municipal Election is taking place on October 26, 2026, and becoming a candidate is one of the most direct ways to help shape decisions that affect everyday life in your community.
Nominations are now open! As long as you’re eligible, anyone can become a candidate. No experience required.

In Clarington, you can run for:

  • Mayor
  • Regional Councillor
  • Local (Ward) Councillor
  • School Board Trustee

Local decision‑making is strengthened when people with different backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experiences bring their voices to the table.

Why running matters

Municipal decisions help shape the spaces you use every day — where you walk, play, drive, gather, and grow. Becoming a candidate means:

  • Having a direct voice in shaping Clarington’s future.
  • Representing neighbours and advocating for your community.
  • Helping ensure decisions are made locally, transparently, and thoughtfully.
  • Giving back through public service and community leadership.

How to get started

Nominations opened on May 1, 2026, and will close on Nomination Day, August 21, 2026, at 2 p.m.

To become a candidate, you’ll need to:

  • Make sure you qualify to run.
  • Complete a nomination form.
  • Gather the required endorsements (Council candidates only).
  • Pay the applicable filing fee.
  • Submit your paperwork in person at the Municipal Administrative Centre.
