Our staff inspect all streetlights in Clarington twice a year, making sure they are all in good working order.
All of Clarington's streetlights use energy-efficient LED luminaries. These luminaires use significantly less energy than traditional streetlight bulbs and offer reductions in Municipal energy bills. Switching to LED streetlights helps us reach our target of reducing corporate greenhouse gas emissions by 35 percent (from 2018 levels) by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. If your streetlight is out, you can report it online or by calling 905-623-3379 ext. 2661.
It can be hard to determine which light is not working during daylight hours when the streetlights are off. To help us, please:
With LED technology, there are no more light bulbs to replace. If a streetlight is not working, it is likely due to a repair that needs a specific part to be replaced. Outages may take anywhere from a few days to several months to resolve, depending on the specific component that failed. Underground wire faults take the longest to address, and temporary overhead lines are sometimes used as an interim solution until the repair is complete. Our streetlight maintenance contractor stocks replacement parts for the most common luminaires; however, some outages may still require several weeks to repair. The contractor will begin to repair the light as soon as they receive the appropriate parts needed for the repair.
